When I connect to the element of air, I think of music, windy weather, and the phrase, “There’s something in the air…”
The element of air invites us to allow our different emotions and then release them. It invites us to make a decision and then change it. It encourages spontaneity and wildness. It dares you to try something new and listen to your intuition. See where the wind takes you…
Clearing Your Aura
The element of air can be especially clearing to one’s aura. I like to imagine a strong wind surrounding me and removing all the energetic debris I’ve been holding for a variety of reasons. It can feel really good to walk into a strong wind and imagine it shaking off my “energetic dust”.
As part of Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, I often use the elements air, fire, water & the earth as a visual during sessions when a person is clearing old burdens they’ve been carrying.
Want to try it out with the element of air? First check-in with your body and notice where you’re holding tension or perhaps emotional and energetic things that aren’t yours at all. With intention, invite an imaginary breeze/tornado like wind/wind of your choice to come in and clear it out. Breathe. Release.
Turbulence
Sometimes when I’m on an airplane and we hit some turbulence, I imagine a holographic image of my field with my body’s field as a holography of the earth’s field. In our energetic field we have a combination of structured and flowing levels. The odd levels are structured and the even ones fluid. When we’re high above the earth in an airplane, I imagine that I’m in the second level of the earth’s field and remember that it’s normal for there to be movement there. If it’s more turbulence than I’m comfortable with, I then imagine breathing in to the movement of the air and calming it a few degrees. I swear this actually works! Try it out. Sometimes I can imagine that I’m like those vultures & hawks taking pleasure in surfing the thermals.
Loves Music, Loves to Dance
Have you ever watched a conductor work with the musicians? I often marvel at what is translated from the conductor’s movements to the energy of an orchestra. I enjoyed the show Mozart in the Jungle which follows a fictional version of the New York Symphony Orchestra. You can watch the resonance or disconnection between the conductor & the musicians. The energy held by the conductor is a key ingredient to transmit the desired qualities of sound from the musicians.
Dancing is another beautiful experience of interacting with the body & the air. So many ways of moving from whatever feels intuitive to many schools of dance. I’ve never taken any dance lessons, but I’ve always marvelled at people who can really dance well. Footloose was one of my favourite movies when I was young and watching the music video for Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation blew me away.
There’s Something In The Air..
Think of the last time you had the thought, “there’s something in the air..” The element of air is connected to our intuition. Sometimes the full moon will be enough for things to shift in the air. Sometimes it’s a combination of world events happening that seems to vibrate through the ether.
Sometimes I like to play with my intuition by pausing and noticing what I’m feeling within myself and then what I’m feeling in the air in the world in general.
Sometimes after an election I won’t look at the results before playing with my intuition. What does it feel like in the air right now? Then make a guess. When have there been times where you knew things before anyone told you?
Contemplative Questions
- When have you known something before someone told you?
- What is the wind like in your area of the world – what is your relationship with the wind?
- When was the last time you were spontaneous? Invite some spontaneity into your life.
