Part of my mission in combining energy healing with psychotherapy is to demystify energy healing.
In the 1980s – early 2000s energy healing was seen as pretty “out there”. Whereas now most people have heard of Reiki and there are tons of practitioners everywhere.
The language of energy healing often lands beautifully to explain the experience of emotions & interactions with others in our lives. As I started my private practice, I wrote several blog posts about energy healing. The writing process was both for me to practice explaining this topic and for potential clients who were new to the world of energy healing.
Here are few – some of them are rusty, but hey that’s part of the process of writing.

Client Questions
One of the most common questions potential clients ask me is, “How do you blend energy healing into a psychotherapy session?”
My answer has changed over time. In general I say that we start with talking, and energy healing is used along the way to help deepen into a current area they’re exploring or to integrate the work they’re doing. Every client is a little bit different.
Some people know they want energy healing to be a part of every session – for these individuals I recommend a 90 minute session.
In all honesty, I use intuition to guide me. Some clients benefit from an energy healing in the first session to help them connect to their body and emotional parts. Others never have one and do a lot of their own energy work sitting on the couch. Often times as people connect to deep truths or patterns they want to share, I’ve found that energy healing is a great way to anchor and integrate the deep work they ‘re doing.
How might you answer this question to potential clients? Brainstorm this answer. Part of completing the Barbara Brennan School of Healing program was to write out a page of how you might explain energy healing to someone who’s never heard of it. My web-page still includes part of this exercise. The paragraph starting with “I am a Barbara Brennan Healing Practitioner..” is the one from that exercise.
Sharing Your Experience
Every journey into becoming an energy healing practitioner is a bit different. How might you share part of your journey on your website or in your newsletter/blog?
Every type of energy healing is also unique. What do you love about the one you specialize in?
I’ve found that having the combination of energy healing & psychotherapy has been a great niche in itself. Sometimes clarity & emotional processing arise during an energy healing. Energy healing can be deep work and psychotherapy skills are such an asset to the process.
I’m so excited for whatever combination you decide to create! This combination of skills is such a gift for clients.
