What Are Presence Sessions?
The more I’ve done psychotherapy, the more I’ve come to appreciate the act of Presence. Me, sitting with another person with full attention to the other, listening deeply and holding space for the other and whatever they are bringing to the session.
My goal in Presence Sessions is to be energetically neutral: I’m not pushing any of my energy towards you or trying to pull any of your energy towards me. That is often a new experience for many people – to be with someone without any demand to be anything but what they are in that moment.
I will sit with you with presence and NO words for 50 minutes. Logistics such as payment etc will be sorted out prior to the session.
This is available in person or online. You can keep your eyes open the entire time, or close them.

Not ready for a full session of presence?
Sometimes a full presence session can feel intimidating. Another great place to start is by adding a period of presence into your counselling or energy healing session. We can sit for 5 minutes or 20 minutes – your choice. Just mention your interest exploring presence at the start of a session.
Why Presence Sessions?
Inspired by Marina Abramovic’s performance, The Artist is Present. At the Modern Museum of Art in New York City, Marina sat in a chair with an empty one in front of her for 75 days during opening hours. The public was invited to come and sit with her for as short or as long as they’d like. Over 850,000 people came to watch her and over 1500 people came to sit with her during that time.
There has been some new research that shows that client’s perception of their therapist’s presence is an indicator on whether the therapy was helpful for them. Here’s a great article on the research on this topic: What do We Experience When Our Therapist is Fully Present?
