Wash your face
In the morning dew…
Sleep by the ocean,
Letting yourself unfurl
Like the reeds that swirl
Gradually on the sea floor…
Feel the seamless silk of the ocean
Warm you in ancient buoyancy.
from John O’Donohue’s Axioms for Wildness
Water is often associated with purification, the feminine, & flow. With psychotherapy & energy healing water can be used as part of visualization to clear old burdens and energetic “debris”.
Water as Purification
One of things that can help clear our energetic fields is immersing ourselves in salty water. That could be the ocean (if you’re that lucky to be close to one!) or it could be a bath with Epsom or sea salts. In Hamilton we have a variety of places that have float tanks where you can immerse yourself in Epsom salted water for 60-90 minutes.
Dr. Zach Bush also talks about the benefits of adding a pinch of high quality sea salt to the water we drink.
In Hamilton we are surrounded by many many waterfalls. Standing near a waterfall is great for clearing our energetic field. Here’s a photo of Tew’s falls during winter in 2022.
Consciousness of Water
Years ago I came across Masaru Emoto’s The Miracle of Water. He demonstrated that we can shift the energy of water with our words and our energy. I remember I went through a period of time where I had heart stickers on my water pitchers. Since our bodies are mostly composed of water, this information is a beautiful invitation to bless and love ourselves.
More recently I was recommended to look at Veda Austin. You can follow her on Instagram to see photos of frozen water after water interacts with words or with an object or person. It’s wild.
Water as a River
Have you ever read Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse? I adored this book. The River/Ferry man is a key person in this book and leads Siddhartha to use the river as part of his journey towards enlightenment. The singer Miten even wrote a song about him - River Man.
We all talk about being in “the flow”. Flowing and resistance are beautiful descriptors for many experiences in life of clinging onto old patterns and learning to let go.
An inspirational movie about Rivers & Rapids is The River Runner (2021). A beautiful mix of the masculine (both toxic & healthy) & the feminine playing out in real life.
Water as a Wave
Often in psychotherapy we talk about “riding waves” of emotion. Learning to be present with a wave like a surfer - anchored in Self & the Body and being present with emotions we feel and allowing them to move through us. Like surfing, learning to ride the wave of emotions takes time for confidence to build in this process.
I also loved Susan Casey’s The Wave where she explores rogue waves, big wave surfing and so much more. The metaphor of water runs so deep (i didn’t even have to try to make that joke - sorry!)
The Divine Feminine
Water is often associated with the feminine & it’s easy to see why. I live very close to Lake Ontario. If you’ve ever spent some time on the Great Lakes, you have probably seen times when it is so calm you can see your reflection and other times as turbulent as a stormy ocean. The feminine can be calm and can be wild. It is not something to be contained or tamed - it is something to be met.
The feminine is connected to emotion, nourishment, intuition. Water is essential to life. Locations on the earth with a lot of water often have a lot of feminine energy - think Hawaii or Bali.
For an extensive list of water deities throughout the world - check THIS out. I was in awe of how many were listed.
How does water inspire you? What is your connection to water?
